BCGEU – Vancouver

The British Columbia General Employees’ Union (BCGEU) operates 12 offices across the province, and over the years we have had the privilege of completing projects in 11 of those locations. This project focused on BCGEU’s Vancouver office, known as the Lower Mainland Area Office (LMAO).

Unlike many of the union’s other locations, which occupy standalone buildings, the LMAO is situated within a larger office complex. While each BCGEU office maintains a consistent sense of identity and purpose, every location is thoughtfully tailored to reflect the character of its community and the people it serves.

For the Lower Mainland Area Office, the design vision centered on creating a warm, welcoming environment that balances professionalism with comfort. Contemporary design elements are complemented by subtle cultural references, resulting in a space that feels both modern and approachable. A calming palette of neutral tones, natural wood finishes, and carefully selected materials creates a grounded and inviting atmosphere throughout the office.

Open, accessible layouts encourage collaboration and ease of movement, while distinctive lighting features add character and visual interest. The design also incorporates meaningful cultural elements, including Indigenous-inspired artwork and carefully curated décor, helping to create a workplace that feels inclusive, respectful, and connected to the region it serves.

The result is a thoughtfully designed office that supports BCGEU’s staff and members alike; combining functionality, comfort, and a strong sense of place to foster connection, collaboration, and community.
